The striking pair are battling it out for seemingly one position.
Celtic’s Moussa Dembele celebrates after scoring their second goal from the penalty spot
Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has been talking to the club’s official website today about fellow Bhoys striker Leigh Griffiths.
The Frenchman has been having to step into the shoes of the Scotland international recently – with Griffiths currently out of action through injury. He has not featured for Celtic since withdrawing from international duty with a hamstring injury.
However, he is now back in action and will be hoping to get straight back into the first-team ahead of Dembele.
Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths celebrates scoring their third goal
Speaking about the returning striker Celtic’s young Frenchman was very complimentary – insisting they have a healthy rivalry and that he looks forward to playing with Griffiths:
“Leigh is a clever player, so for me to play alongside him would be a good thing. We are different players, he has his strengths and I have mine. We have a friendly competition which is for the good of the team.
“If I can score, I will score, but if I can give the ball to Leigh for a goal, I will. Having him here is a good thing for me.”
Dembele has been in good form of late. He has scored four goals in his last four games, including an excellent goal against Alloa Athletic in the cup yesterday and that now legendary hat-trick against Rangers in the Old Firm derby.
Griffiths’ return will surely give Dembele even more impetus to perform well week-in and week-out – as he will be under pressure to keep hold of the starting berth.
Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers could have a great dilemma on his hands.
