If Manchester United spent £27m on Luke Shaw four years ago then surely Celtic can demand more than £20m for Kieran Tierney?

Manchester United are ready to convert their long held interest in Kieran Tierney into a concrete offer for the Celtic defender this summer, reports the Daily Record.

Tierney has been on the Red Devils’ radar ever since breaking into the Hoops’ first team as a teenager and ahead of a squad reshuffle the 20-year-old has been lined up as a key target.

United are preparing to sell Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw at the end of the season and while Ashley Young has impressed as a converted left-back, manager Jose Mourinho wants a more natural figure in the role.

£20m too low?

After signing a new six-year contract at Parkhead in October, the Bhoys are in a powerful position when it comes to negotiating a fee for Tierney and yet apparently £20m is the starting price.

Considering his age, international experience, chance for development and ability to play anywhere in the back line, surely the reigning Scottish champions could demand far more for such an exciting prospect?

After all, it is now nearly four years since the Premier League giants paid Southampton £27m (BBC) for Shaw, while Manchester City sent the going price for full-backs through the roof last summer when they spent £50m (BBC) and £52m (BBC) respectively on Kyle Walker and Benjamin Mendy.
