The Celtic summer signing wasn’t aware the Hoops were top of the league.
Celtic attacker Mohamed Elyounoussi has admitted he didn’t know the Hoops were top of the league after the weekend’s Scottish Premiership action, speaking to The Celtic View (23/10, page 21).
The Hoops thumped Ross County 6-0 on Saturday, moving a point ahead of Rangers in the league table ahead of their trip to Tynecastle on Sunday afternoon.
Only managing a 1-1 draw, Steven Gerrard’s side now sit in second position on goal difference, surrendering the advantage they managed to gain prior to the international break.
For Elyounoussi though, none of it was of much concern, with the player not even realising the status of the two teams until turning up at the Lennoxtown training centre.
As quoted by The Celtic View (23/10, page 21), the winger said: “I only heard that we were back top when I came into training on Monday. I knew Rangers were playing after us but I didn’t know the outcome until it was mentioned in training.
“There’s a very long way to go in the season, but having Rangers behind us is important, regardless of what point of the season we are at.”
How is the winger settling in to Celtic?
It can sometimes be difficult for loan players to get up to speed at new clubs but for the Southampton man it’s been a productive start to the season. He’s scored three goals and assisted twice in six appearances so far, including a crucial effort in the Europa League against Cluj.
He was lethal against Ross County at the weekend, scoring twice. Those efforts will likely further secure his place in Lennon’s team.
With a run of games he’s well placed to be an effective talent in the Hoops’ quest for trophies.
However, with Mikey Johnston and other youngsters ready to come in and fight for their place in the team it’s form he’ll have to maintain.
