Celtic are keen to sign Daniel Podence with the Wolverhampton Wanderers winger looking set to leave in the coming weeks.

Daniel Podence is now a target for Celtic as Brendan Rodgers eyes up a bold move for the Wolverhampton Wanderers man.

That is according to both Sky Sports and Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse, who report that Celtic want Podence.

Collomosse took to Twitter on Tuesday in order to report that Wolves value Podence at around £12million and that Celtic are looking closely.

Podence hasn’t been part of the Wolves plans this summer and they are still keen to sell even after replacing Julen Lopetegui with Gary O’Neil.

Sky Sports add that Celtic ‘see room for negotiation’ as they seemingly don’t fancy paying £12million for Podence.

A formal approach is being considered with Celtic hoping to drive the asking price down as Wolves look to get rid.

Podence is into the final year of his contract and with no new deal in the offing, it looks like the Portuguese wide man needs to find a new home.

Daniel Podence has scored against Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers

Rodgers will know all about Podence from his time managing in the Premier League – especially after one particular display.

Rodgers took his Leicester City side to take on Wolves at Molineux in February 2022 and ended up closing 2-1.

Podence was a constant threat all night long, playing a role in Ruben Neves opening the scoring.

Podence then left the Wolves defence in a mess as he showed outstanding skill to twist and turn to set up Rayan Ait-Nouri with a shot which crashed off the woodwork.

The Portuguese star had the final say though as he drove a low shot from range into the bottom corner of the net.

The diminutive winger was compared to Eden Hazard after this performance, which was described as ‘brilliant’ by pundit Alan Smith.

Rodgers may well remember that night and could see Podence as the ideal addition to his Celtic side having lost fellow Portuguese wide man Jota this summer.
