Celtic are linked to Stoke’s Moritz Bauer.

Celtic are eyeing a move for Stoke City defender Moritz Bauer, report The Mail.

The right-back would strengthen a position which has been a weakness for Brendan Rodgers’ side.

Bauer signed for Stoke last season and did not expect a potential departure so soon.

Speaking in May ahead of the club’s relegation, Bauer vowed not to even consider leaving the Potteries even in the worst case scenario.

He told the Stoke Sentinel: “Even in the worst case, and I don’t want to think or talk about this, but if we were to drop down then I can imagine being part of the team trying to rebuild this club and get back into the Premier League.”

The big question then, is what might have changed for the 26-year-old?

Dwindling faith from manager Gary Rowett could play a part.

Bauer started Stoke’s opening two games of the Championship season, of which they lost one and drew one, failing to keep a clean sheet.

He has been dropped since, and played just two minutes of action from their following three league games.

This was a ‘worst case’ scenario even Bauer hadn’t even considered, and the prospect of moving to Celtic suddenly looks quite attractive.
