Celtic are chasing Aberdeen’s Scott McKenna.
Aberdeen are not willing to sell on the cheap, after knocking back interest from Swansea City earlier this month.
In doing so, Aberdeen boss Derek McInnes talked up McKenna, and believes he is even better than a player the Swans sold for £20 million to Fulham, Alfie Mawson.
He told Herald Scotland: “Swansea are about to sell a centre half for £18-20million and, for me, Scott McKenna will be every bit as good – and has potential to be even better – than the boy who is about to leave.
“We are well aware of his ability and that the vultures are circling and they are all having a look at Scott.”
If Aberdeen hold out for that kind of money then it will rule Celtic out of the chase for the defender and ensure he stays at Pittodrie for another season.
Celtic will try to convince them to sell for less, and if they do persuade Aberdeen to sell for around £10 million, it could well end up being a bargain for the Scottish champions.
McKenna is just 21 and has years ahead of him at the top level. Celtic will have to pay up if they want to be the ones benefiting from his talent.
