Celtic have made a first move to sign Shamrock Rovers central defender Liam Scales in a potential six-figure transfer.
That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who claim that Celtic have opened talks in an attempt to thrash out a deal for the defender this week.
However, the deal could be delayed until Shamrock Rovers have played against KF Teuta Durres in the Europa Conference League on Thursday.
Scales is a key player for Rovers and they won’t want to lose him before such a big game, meaning Celtic may need to bide their time.
Scales, 22, is thought to be on the wish list of clubs in England and The Irish Independent report that Portsmouth and Cardiff City are very keen.
Celtic are therefore hoping to get a deal done for Scales quickly, and he offers a very intriguing option.

Scales is a tall centre back at 6ft 4in tall but can also play at left wing back, and his status as a left-footed defender means he can bring real balance to Ange Postecoglou’s side.
Scales had a trial at Manchester City in 2019 and looks to have real potential for the future, with this move potentially the biggest moment in his career so far.
