Southampton are reportedly interested in Bristol City striker and rumoured Celtic target Antoine Semenyo shortly after completing a £17m deal to sign Villarreal star Nicolas Jackson.
According to the Athletic, the Saints have internally discussed the Championship attacker as a potential January signing having already signed Croatian international Mislav Orsic and the aforementioned Jackson, with Nathan Jones keen to add to Southampton’s attacking ranks.
The news could come as a potential blow for Celtic, who according to Football Scotland are also interested in the Ghanaian international, who this season has only managed six goals and three assists in all competitions after a breakout year last campaign.
Despite this form, Southampton have now seemingly joined the growing list of clubs interested in signing Semenyo, who could be a wild-card transfer for Celtic this January as the Hoops continue to struggle to bring in an attacker in the transfer window.

Indeed, South Korean international Cho Gue-sung was heavily linked with Celtic earlier in the month. However, it now appears that the 24-year-old will be staying in his native homeland until the summer transfer window, much to the dismay of Hoops manager Ange Postecoglou.
With Southampton now looking to sign Semenyo, there’s a realistic chance that Celtic can end January with no new forwards, something that could have a major impact on the Scottish Premiership title race as well as the Hoops’ endeavours in domestic cups.
Celtic have to rival Southampton for Semenyo signing

Semenyo’s form might not win too many eyeballs this January, but given the number of clubs interested in the 23-year-old, there’s something about the versatile attacker that has made some top sides chase the youngster, with Celtic the team who should be looking to sign the Championship star.
After all, Celtic are in need of some attacking depth this January, and whilst Southampton are now interested in Semenyo, the Hoops can prove to be a more exciting option for the Ghanaian international given the stature of the club and the prospect of European football next season.
