Celtic are now believed to be pursuing a surprise deal for Benfica winger Jota ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline.
That’s according to the Daily Record, who claim that Jota is now a serious target for Celtic over the coming days.
Benfica want to get Jota out on loan again having sent him to Spain last season with Real Valladolid, where he scored just twice in 18 outings.
The 22-year-old is now back in Portugal but could be heading to Glasgow before the transfer deadline with Celtic keen to take him in for the season.
Celtic are moving closer to signing VVV-Venlo striker Giorgios Giakoumakis, and Jota could follow him to add more quality to Ange Postecoglou’s attack.
The 22-year-old has come up through the Benfica ranks from being a kid, and has already managed two goals and three assists in 34 games.
Primarily a left-sided winger, Jota can also play on the right or even off the striker, adding a versatile option to Postecoglou’s squad if Celtic pull off a deal.

Two years ago, Tottenham wanted to sign Jota and allegedly made a first bid to bring him to North London, but no deal was done.
With his progress somewhat stalling, Jota could now head to Celtic in search of playing time and success.
Who knows, maybe a move to Celtic for a year will get him back on Premier League radars, or even land him a long-term home in Glasgow.
