Moritz Jenz has taken to Instagram after his loan at Celtic was cancelled at the halfway stage due to a lack of game time – prompting reaction from Joe Hart and Josip Juranovic on his post, with Jenz returning to Ligue 1 side Lorient.
Jenz, 23, joined Celtic in the summer on a loan-to-buy basis from Lorient. He clocked up 19 appearances for the Hoops – scoring two goals. But Ange Postecoglou’s side kept just five clean sheets in games Jenz played, conceding 27 times.
Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt are clearly first choice at centre-back. The club still have academy product Stephen Welsh as an option – as well as new signing Yuki Kobayaski. Jenz has decided to cut short his loan early.
Sky Sports report on their live transfer blog (25/01, 8:10PM) that Jenz is set to be on the move again. It is expected that he will leave Lorient for a second time on a loan-to-buy basis, joining German side Schalke. Jenz posted on Instagram.
Hart and Juranovic react as Jenz loan cancelled at halfway stage
It is the right move. After a promising start, Jenz struggled in the Champions League and Celtic have better options. A move to Schalke promises game time for the big defender – who returns to his birthplace of Germany this month.
Kobayashi has shown promising signs since his arrival at Celtic. Welsh is seemingly happy to remain at the club, even if he is back-up to Celtic’s first-choice options. Catrer-Vickers is probably the best defender in Scotland at this moment.
Starfelt is a weakness in the Celtic side and Kobayashi could overtake him – something Jenz failed to do at Parkhead. Plenty responded to his post on Instagram, including both goalkeeper Hart and Juranovic, who is at Union Berlin.
The Croatia star actually made his debut for Union on Wednesday night and got an assist in a 2-1 win over Werder Bremen. The defender could now face Jenz, with Schalke facing Union on February 19. Hart and Juranovic commented.
