Mikael Lustig future

AIK sports director Bjorn Wesstrom has suggested to The Scottish Sun that the club are interested in signing Mikael Lustig from Celtic in the January transfer window.

Wesstrom, though, has made it clear that AIK have not made any contact with Celtic over a move for the 31-year-old right-back.

Wesstrom told The Scottish Sun: “To contact him now we would need Celtic’s blessing and we have not asked for that.

“We have not had formal contact with him. At the same time, of course, he’s an interesting player who’d add a lot.”

Celtic exit?

Lustig is one of the best right-backs in the Scottish Premiership and has been on the books of Celtic since 2012.

Some of the Sweden international right-back’s recent performances have not been great, but the former Rosenborg star remains an important figure in manager Brendan Rodgers’s side.

Lustig, though, is out of contract at Celtic at the end of the season, according to Transfermarkt.com.

Filip Benkovic future

Leicester City manager Claude Puel has suggested to The Scottish Sun that Filip Benkovic will stay at Celtic until next summer and will not be recalled in the January transfer window.

The 21-year-old central defender joined Celtic on a season-long loan deal from Premier League side Leicester in the summer transfer window.

Puel told The Scottish Sun: “It’s a great chance for Benkovic to play and come back with strength and good quality for us.

“He signed with Leicester to play in the Premier League. But this is a fantastic opportunity for him.

“If, for example, we have five or six centre backs we know it’s not possible to manage all of them.”

Boost for Celtic

Benkovic has established himself as an important player for Celtic, and the youngster staying at the Glasgow giants for the rest of the season is certainly going to be a boost for the Hoops.
