Celtic’s hopes of signing Royal Antwerp defender Aurelio Buta may suddenly be dwindling in a potential blow for Ange Postecoglou.

That’s according to multiple reports over the last 24 hours with a deal for the right back now thought to be unlikely.

The Daily Mail claim that a deal to sign Buta looks ‘less likely’ than a move for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart at this stage.

The Daily Record add that there are now fears that Fenerbahce and Galatasaray will swoop in to scupper Celtic’s hopes of a deal.

A bidding war could end up taking place, and that’s really not what Celtic want as they attempt to get a right back signing over the line.

Walfoot in Belgium reported last week that Celtic had agreed a £3million deal to sign Buta, and the deal looked likely to go through.

Celtic seemingly haven’t progressed from there though and now fear that Buta is slipping away from them, which certainly won’t help the mood at Parkhead.

The Bhoys opened the season with a 2-1 defeat at Hearts, and even though Anthony Ralston scored in that game, it’s clear that another right back is needed.

Buta is quick and exciting going forward, so he would certainly make sense – but we will now see whether Celtic can claw this deal back towards their favour.
