FC Midtjylland have now contacted Celtic star Giorgos Giakoumakis to discuss his interest in a transfer in January. The Danish Superligaen side are striving to strengthen their attack.
That is according to BT, which reports the MCH Arena natives have launched an ambitious pursuit of Giakoumakis. He is one of the leading names on Ulvene’s shortlist to hand head coach Albert Capellas a new striker. Midtjylland are also looking to sign a new playmaker.

But Midtjylland accept it will be a ‘big challenge’ to convince Giakoumakis to leave Celtic in the mid-season market. Yet they remain interested in agreeing a swoop as the 28-year-old impressed for VVV-Venlo before joining the Bhoys and after switching to the Premiership.

Ange Postecoglou paid VVV-Venlo up to £2.5m to get Giakoumakis in August 2021. The 11-cap Greece international also penned a five-year deal at Parkhead worth £12k-a-week. But Kyogo Furuhashi is firmly ahead of the striker in the Hoops’ pecking order so far this term.
Giakoumakis has only started in four of his 18 Premiership appearances, despite scoring six goals and one assist. He also opened two of his six fixtures in the Champions League group stage for a goal. Postecoglou has started Giakoumakis once in his two League Cup outings.

Postecoglou will let Midtjylland’s transfer target, Giakoumakis, leave Celtic
So, Giakoumakis currently has a record of 25 goals and two assists in 55 games for Celtic in all competitions since joining them. He also quit VVV-Venlo after bagging 29 goals and two assists over 33 games during the forward’s only season at De Koel and moving to Scotland.
Now, Midtjylland hope Giakoumakis is interested in a transfer to Denmark after contacting the Celtic striker over a possible move. And they may be in luck. The Daily Record reported in November that the Hoops could sell the attacker after failing to agree to a new contract.

Parkhead chiefs also frustrated Giakoumakis after they could not agree to fresh terms with his agent, Blash Hosseini. He had significantly dropped his wage demands to clinch a move to Glasgow in 2021 if Celtic also agreed to improve his wage after a successful first season.
Now, numerous European clubs are interested in securing a transfer if Celtic do look to sell Midtjylland’s January target, Giakoumakis. Postecoglou will also not stand in his way if the forward – who Joe Miller has praised as ‘strong and powerful’ – wants to leave Parkhead.
