Suwon Samsung Bluewings star Oh Hyeon-Gyu has already visited Lennoxtown to meet his new Celtic teammates. Ange Postecoglou is waiting for the transfer to be rubberstamped.

That is according to the Daily Record, which reports Hyeon-Gyu has now verbally agreed to personal terms with Celtic. The Hoops have also reached an agreement with Suwon on the fee for the 21-year-old. He will move to the Premiership giants in a deal worth up to £2.5m.

With Suwon happy with Celtic’s offer, the K-League club have given Hyeon-Gyu permission to move to Glasgow. He is now waiting for a work visa and for the Bhoys to finalise the last aspects of the paperwork. The deal is also set to be Postecoglou’s final arrival this January.

Celtic are not waiting around to integrate Hyeon-Gyu into Postecoglou’s team ahead of his transfer from Suwon. The striker has already visited the Hoops’ Lennoxtown training ground to meet with his new teammates. He has also met with the Bhoys’ staff to start to settle in.

Hyeon-Gyu will likely replace Giorgos Giakoumakis in Postecoglou’s squad as the Greece star nears the exit door. He has been a target of the Australian for the past few weeks with Joongang citing an offer in December. It noted the Hoops began with a €2m (£1.75m) bid.

Oh Hyeon-Gyu is closing in on a transfer from Suwon to Celtic

Postecoglou has remained eager to secure a transfer for Hyeon-Gyu after the striker shone with Suwon last year. The forward scored 14 and assisted a further two goals during his 39 appearances across all competitions. He also started in 26 of his appearances during 2022.

Suwon also saw Hyeon-Gyu enjoy his debut for the senior South Korea side in November in a pre-World Cup friendly. Manager Paulo Bento introduced the Namyangju, Gyeonggi-born hitman from the bench during the closing stages of their warm-up meeting against Iceland.

But Bento did not take Hyeon-Gyu to the World Cup in Qatar, where the Taegeuk Warriors made the Round of 16. Now, Hyeon-Gyu should have the chance to fortify his international acclaim at Celtic once he receives the necessary paperwork to get his transfer from Suwon.
