Rangers legend Barry Ferguson believes the sight of Brendan Rodgers returning to Celtic will ‘send a shiver down the spine’ of those at Ibrox.
It seems there is more to mere speculation to the story suggesting that one of Celtic’s most successful ever managers could be in line for a shock return to Parkhead.
According to the Daily Mail, Michael Nicholson, the Hoops chief executive, jetted out to Brendan Rodgers’ Mallorca home this weekend, alongside finance director Chris McKay. Face-to-face talks between the two parties are now underway.

And while Rodgers will be fully aware that his return will not go down particularly well with every member of the Green Brigade – the 50-year-old taking a torch to his bridges when leaving Celtic in the lurch back to take over at Leicester City back in 2019 – there can be no arguing with his remarkable record north of the border.
Rodgers won two domestic trebles and seven trophies overall during two-and-a-half seasons in Glasgow.
Is Brendan Rodgers returning to Celtic?
The sudden departure of Ange Postecoglou to Tottenham Hotspur may have opened up a window of opportunity for arch rivals Rangers. But Ferguson fears that that proverbial ‘window’ may slammed shut once again if Rodgers signs on the dotted line.
“Put it this way, Celtic’s decades of dominance are not going to be ended by default,” Ferguson tells the Daily Record.
“And it’s worth remembering that, while Postecoglou claimed five out of six trophies in his two years at Parkhead, this was just the latest part of a pattern which stretches back way longer than a couple of seasons.”
Celtic have now won the treble in five of the last eight years. Premiership champions in 10 of the last 11.
“The very mention of Brendan Rodgers being in the running for the job should send a shiver down the spine, because he’s the guy who started this monopoly by leading them to three successive trebles,” Ferguson adds.
“Now I don’t know if Rodgers is ready to return or not but. Whoever is brought in, it won’t change what is required at Rangers.”
Celtic are also considering Manchester City assistant Enzo Maresca and former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch.
According to the Daily Record, talks are underway with 34-year-old Francesco Farioli too.
