Celtic are reportedly keen on Chelsea target Richmond Boakye.
According to the Daily Mail, Celtic are interested in rivalling Premier League giants Chelsea in the pursuit of signing Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye.
The Bhoys already have two impressive goalscorers in Leigh Griffiths and Moussa Dembele, but with more depth needed and Rodgers potentially having to identify future replacements for Dembele, another striker could be targeted in January.
Whilst a host of players will be linked with Celtic between now and January, the latest name in the frame is Red Star Belgrade striker Richmond Boakye, who is also attracting interest from Chelsea according to the Daily Mail.
Ghanaian forward Boakye, 24, has hit a stunning 28 goals in 37 games for Red Star Belgrade, having joined from Italian side Latina in January of this year.
His goalscoring record in 2017 is incredible, and whilst beating Chelsea to his signature would be a huge transfer win for Celtic, there is also reason for Bhoys manager Brendan Rodgers to be wary of the ex-Juventus forward.
Boakye failed to impress with Genoa between 2009 and 2011, and whilst he scored 23 times in 68 games for Sassuolo, he endured a nomadic spell between 2013 and 2017, turning out for Elche, Atalanta, Roda JC and Latina.
Across his spell with those four modest clubs, Boakye scored just four goals in 33 games, before exploding into life in Serbia – and that spell of poor goalscoring form before heading to Serbia should be a concern that Boakye is a one-season wonder.
After all, even former Celtic flop Stefan Scepovic managed seven goals in 14 games for Partizan Belgrade, with fans potentially concerned about spending a big fee on a striker with little goalscoring prowess outside of Serbia.
