Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic men are set to battle it out for the Scottish Premiership title next season.

Reported Celtic transfer target Paddy McNair is a major fan of Glasgow Rangers midfielder Steven Davis.

According to the Scottish Sun, Celtic are prepared to make a move for McNair in a transfer which would put him in direct competition with one of his childhood heroes.

McNair, who plays with Rangers’ Davis at international level, grew up watching the Ibrox side’s midfielder.

And McNair has only ever spoken highly of the Rangers man in the past.

“I was a massive Northern Ireland fan growing,” he said to the Belfast Telegraph.

“I used to love watching Steven Davis. Aaron Hughes and Chris Baird were playing too back then. There was that ‘pinch me’ moment when I started playing with them.”

If McNair does join Celtic he could have to come up against Rangers’ Davis next season.

Davis, who signed permanently at Ibrox this summer, could have an important role to play for Steven Gerrard’s side in the upcoming campaign, while Celtic need additions in midfield.

The Daily Record claims that if Celtic are to sign McNair this summer they will have to pay £5 million to get him from Middlesbrough.
