Celtic are reportedly planning to offer the young defender a trial at the end of the season.
In comments reported by The Scottish Sun, Bahlul Mustafazada has insisted that he would love the chance to join Celtic amid reports that he is set to be offered the opportunity to have a trial with the Hoops.
The Bhoys go into the summer needing to strengthen their defensive options with Dedryck Boyata out of contract and Filip Benkovic’s loan spell at Parkhead about to come to an end.
The Scottish Sun reports that the 22-year-old has been invited for a trial with Celtic after being spotted by their scouts. And the Gabala youngster has suggested that he would be delighted to make the move to join the Scottish Premiership champions.
“I don’t want to comment on the situation at the moment, but of course I would want to play for a club like Celtic,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun. “If a contract proposal happened then I would certainly jump at it.
“‘I’m out of contract at the end of the season, but at the moment I am fighting to try and ensure Gabala get into Europe.”
Addressing the lack of depth at centre-back is going to be a key issue for the manager to deal with in the summer. Jozo Simunovic and Kristoffer Ajer have been exceptional in recent weeks, but Celtic do not have a great number of options supporting them in the pecking order.
With Mustafazada a youngster and likely to be an unknown quantity to almost everyone associated with the Hoops, it appears highly unlikely that he would be the only signing that the club make in that area of the field if he does impress during his trial.
But given Celtic’s track record when it comes to uncovering some real gems in the transfer market, perhaps the Parkhead faithful can be optimistic that Mustafazada could be the latest inspired addition that no-one really saw coming.
