Celtic playmaker Lewis Morgan has told the Glasgow Evening Times that Kris Boyd’s claims about a divide in the Bhoys squad are ‘nonsense’.

Celtic lost 2-1 at Kilmarnock on Sunday afternoon, with the defeat made even harder to swallow by the fact that Brendan Rodgers’ men were leading 1-0 at Rugby Park before collapsing.

The Bhoys are going through a tough time at the moment, as they have already lost two games from six in the league and even sit behind Old Firm rivals Rangers at this early stage in the season.

Manager Rodgers has appeared frustrated with the club’s summer transfer business, and having crashed out of the Champions League qualifiers to AEK Athens and then only narrowly beat Rosenborg in the Europa League on Thursday night, some are worried about Celtic’s current state.

In fact, Kilmarnock striker and regular pundit Kris Boyd told BBC Sport earlier this week that he thinks there is a clear divide in the Celtic squad, suggesting that many don’t look like they’re bothered about playing for the club.

Rodgers hit back in a press conference on Tuesday, but now rarely-seen Lewis Morgan – a signing from St Mirren earlier this year who has played just twice – has spoken up as well.

Speaking to the Glasgow Evening Times, Morgan claims that Boyd’s comments are ‘definitely not true’ and ‘nonsense’, adding that Boyd has no knowledge of the Celtic dressing room whilst believing that Celtic’s squad remains close-knit.

“That’s definitely not true,” said Morgan. “That’s someone outwith the club who wouldn’t have any knowledge of what’s going on inside the building. We’ve got a really close-knit team. You can only look at what we’ve achieved over the last couple of years. That doesn’t come without a close team. All the boys are close and together. So that’s something I can rule out. It is a really close-knit dressing room and everyone gets on with each other. That’s nonsense,” he added.
