Celtic are now sweating over the fitness of Liel Abada as boss Brendan Rodgers waits for news on the injury the winger has just sustained on international duty with Israel.

That is according to the Daily Record, which reports that Abada will undergo scans to assess the severity of his injury. The 21-year-old is facing a spell on the sidelines after developing a muscular injury in the September break. He pulled up during training to report the problem.

Abada felt a ‘pinch’ in his muscle and will miss Israel’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against Romania and Belarus. Alon Hazan’s Chosen Team are in need of a result to usurp Romania for second place. They sit third in Group I on seven points after four games with Switzerland top on 10.

Hazan expects to be without Abada against Romania and, likely, also against Belarus due to his injury. Scans will determine the full extent of his issue but Rodgers faces an anxious wait for news. Celtic’s Champions League campaign begins away to Feyenoord on September 19.

Rodgers will be loath to be without Abada as Celtic visit Feyenoord should his injury sideline the Israel forward. The Bhoys also host Dundee FC in Glasgow on September 16 and the 10-cap dynamo has been key so far. He has played in all five of the Hoops’ Premiership fixtures.

Abada has further offered one goal and one assist in the Scottish top-flight so far this term. He also opened the action as the Bhoys lost 1-0 at Kilmarnock in the League Cup. Rodgers has only opted against starting Abada this term against St Johnstone in August’s 0-0 draw.

Rodgers has developed a quick affection for Abada, so will hate to see the Celtic star suffer a serious injury. The Israel forward, who Kenny Miller claims can create ‘wonderful’ moments, also scored 13 and assisted nine goals in 47 games under Ange Postecoglou over 2022/23.
