While Celtic struggle, Patrick Roberts is too in Spain.

Celtic made no secret of the fact they wanted to sign Patrick Roberts permanently after his extended loan spell from Manchester City came to an end.

City had other ideas and sent him out on loan to Spanish side Girona.

Last night Girona claimed an impressive 2-2 draw with Barcelona. Roberts was not involved.

He was an unused substitute as he has often been this season.

Roberts only has three appearances off the bench this season for a combined hour of football.

Celtic meanwhile are badly missing his influence.

With players like James Forrest and Scott Sinclair struggling for consistency, Roberts’ tough spell in Spain is even more frustrating for Celtic.

The player they wanted and who could really help them is being wasted.

Perhaps this could end up benefiting Celtic in the long run.

If Roberts cannot win over Girona coaches, City may elect to give up on him, allowing Celtic another chance to land him.
