Celtic’s Moussa Dembele celebrates scoring their third goal
Celtic striker Moussa Dembele insists that the standard of football in Scotland is good and that the move from Fulham represents a step up for him.
The French striker has been in fine goalscoring form since he arrived in Glasgow from Fulham on a free transfer this summer.
He has found the net 12 times in 17 games so far this season – leaving many to question the actual standard of the Scottish game – although two of those goals came against Manchester City in the Champions League.

But speaking to the official Celtic Twitter account after winning the SPFL September Player of the Month award Dembele made it clear that he feels the standard in Scotland is good:
“This was the next step for me after Fulham. I had to show I could do it at a massive club at a high level.
“There is a good standard up here.
“They are critical [in England] but I don’t think they watch it. If you watch it, you see there is quality.”

Many a striker who has found the net with regularity in Scottish football has gone on to struggle if they head to the English game – which may be one reason why the goalscoring antics of Dembele may not be taken too seriously by many.
But he is now playing Champions League football as well – scoring on three separate occasions in Europe this term.
There’s no doubt that Celtic represents a significant step up for him and if he can continue his current form then he will surely prove any doubters wrong.
