It doesn’t look like Celtic defender Kieran Tierney wants to be playing at right-back for Brendan Rodgers’ side any time soon.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has told the Daily Record that Kieran Tierney is hoping he is not converted to a full-time right-back, after his impressive display for Scotland.
Tierney was deployed on the right hand side of Scotland’s defence, for Gordon Strachan’s side’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Slovenia earlier in the week.
And the youngster put in a highly impressive display, as Scotland picked up a 1-0 victory.
The Celtic defender was one of Scotland’s stand out performers on the night, but Griffiths claims that Tierney told him after the match that he does not want to stay at right-back forever.
“Kieran was brilliant,” Griffiths said. “He said in the dressing room that he maybe shouldn’t have played so well because he might have turned himself into a right-back.
“He said the last time he played there it was Under-12s but that is only a couple of years ago!”
Tierney has been used as Celtic’s left-back this season, which is where he feels is his more natural position.
It seems unlikely that Brendan Rodgers will switch the side the Celtic top prospect will play, given his excellent form this season.
Celtic are next in action at the weekend, when they play against Hearts, and Tierney is set to start in that match.
