Celtic’s Leigh Griffiths and Scott Brown celebrate after Tomas Rogic (background) scores their first goal
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has hit back at claims he is a diver, speaking to the Daily Mail.
The forward enjoyed another goalscoring afternoon on Saturday as he scored in the 4-2 win over St Johnstone that maintained his side’s winning start to the campaign.
That goal marked his sixth in all competitions for the Scot this season in what has been a strong start to the campaign to say the least.
However there was one black mark on his performance, as referee Craig Thomson handed him a yellow card for diving following a clash with defender Richard Foster in the box.

Griffiths has hit back at the claims he is a diver though, insisting there was contact from the defender.
“There was contact in the box,” he insisted to the Daily Mail.
“I’m not going to go down unless there was contact. I said that to the ref — he’s refereed other games against me and he’s not seen me dive once.”

While Griffiths is clearly annoyed to pick up the yellow card, it does mean that he doesn’t face retrospective punishment, which is something of a blessing in disguise.
That means he can put the incident behind him quickly and focus on scoring the goals that Celtic will need if they are to be title contenders once again this season.
They will certainly need him in goalscoring form, with this season looking likely to one of the most competitive in a number of years.
