West Bromwich Albion have been credited with having an interest in Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

A recent report from the Daily Record has suggested that West Brom are interested in signing Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths this summer, but could have to offer the Hoops £6 million before they even consider allowing the Scotland international to move on.

Interestingly, the Birmingham Mail suggests that it is not the first time that the Baggies have monitored Griffiths, having handed him a trial back in 2009 when the 26-year-old was coming through the ranks at Livingston.

The Mail reports that Tony Mowbray’s future at the Hawthorns played a crucial role in the fact that the move never took place with the then-Baggies boss soon heading to Parkhead, leaving the path clear for Griffiths to move to Dundee, before heading to Wolves and subsequently joining Celtic in 2014.

But Griffiths’ comments from the time when Mowbray’s future was in the air certainly suggest that he would not necessarily close the door on making a switch to West Brom if the chance presented itself.

“West Brom are a huge club and I enjoyed my trial with them so if I got the chance to sign I probably would,” he said, as reported by the Mail.

Of course, things have changed drastically for Griffiths since then, having gone from being Livingston’s talisman to becoming one of Celtic’s most important players, so there is surely no doubt that a move to West Brom would probably not appeal quite as much as it did seven years ago – even though Tony Pulis’ men are now much more established in the Premier League than they were in 2009.

But if West Brom do make the kind of bid that tempts Celtic into accepting a deal, then perhaps he may be more inclined to move on especially if Brendan Rodgers feels that Moussa Dembele will continue to be the side’s first-choice striker.
