Celtic's Leigh Griffiths celebrates scoring their third goal

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has been quoted as saying by The Glasgow Evening Times that he has been frustrated with his injury problems so far this season.

The 26-year-old scored as many as 40 goals for Celtic last season, but he is not guaranteed a place in the Bhoys’ first team at the moment.

The form of Moussa Dembele, who joined the Hoops in the summer of 2016, has made it tough for Griffiths to retain his place in the starting lineup.

The Scotland international has struggled with a calf injury since the end of January and made his comeback at the weekend.

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker came on as a substitute in the 72nd minute of the Scottish Premiership game against Hamilton Academical at Celtic Park on Saturday afternoon.

Griffiths has said that he was happy to have made a return, but he has admitted frustration with his injuries.

“Everybody has been talking about if there is a rift between me and the gaffer because of what he said but it is great to be back on the pitch, back among the boys and back in the matchday squad,” The Glasgow Evening Times quotes Griffiths as saying. “It is great. Being injured is so frustrating.”

Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 76 points from 26 matches, 24 points clear of second-placed Aberdeen.
