Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has admitted to the Daily Express that his injury problems have left him disappointed at times this season.
Griffiths has struggled to stay off the treatment table throughout the campaign so far.
The Scotland international has suffered with a number of calf injuries throughout the season.
And, as a result, Griffiths has only been utilised as a reserve choice for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
The 26-year-old was handed his first start for Celtic in 2017, during his side’s 5-1 victory over Rangers last weekend.
And Griffiths said: “It’s never nice being injured. There’s no one more disappointed than me when I’m out. Since I’ve come back I’ve proved my fitness and Moussa being injured gives me a chance.
“The manager wanted me to come back and not break down. I had a problem with my calves and I rushed back. Had I taken another few weeks then I’d have been fine. I’ve worked on it now and the last time I injured my calf I took some extra time and it’s been fine.
“The gaffer thinks highly of me and knows what I can do, but I can’t help him from the treatment table.”
Griffiths scored over 40 goals for Celtic last term, but his output his been significantly down this campaign.
The former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker has hit 15 goals across all competitions this term.
And Griffiths admits that he is hoping that next season can be more productive.
“My main aim this season was to play in the Champions League, but for three-quarters of it I was injured. I got injured leading up to the first Rangers game and then it was the Barcelona game days later,” he added.
“So hopefully next season, if we get to the Champions League, I will still have a huge part to play showing everybody what I can do.”
