Leigh Griffiths played an important part in Celtic’s treble-winning season.
Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has been quoted by BT Sport as saying that he expects Old Firm rivals Rangers to be a tougher outfit next season, following the appointment of Steven Gerrard.
The 27-year-old has endured a frustrating season despite helping Celtic win three trophies this season, with a number of injuries preventing him from featuring more consistently.
It limited the Scotland international to just 31 appearances in all competitions, in which he still managed to score 13 goals and turn provider on a further eight occasions for Brendan Rodgers’ side.
He told BT Sport that he expects Rangers to be a strong proposition next season as they have continue to bring in talent this summer, which has already seen them sign Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy.
“Next season teams will be trying even harder to stop us, in the cup competitions, especially,” Griffiths said. “Yes, you seen the business Rangers have done on the other side of the city, Hibs will be stronger again, Aberdeen and Hearts will be strong, Kilmarnock finished the season well.
“We have a lot of tough competitors next season and we look forward to it.”
Griffiths is likely to have plenty of competition in the final third once again next season, with the Hoops said to be considering a permanent move to land Odsonne Edouard while Moussa Dembele could also remain at Parkhead.
The former Wolves and Hibernian striker has a decent record against Rangers, scoring three times in 11 games against the Gers and will be hoping to add to that tally next season.
