Celtic want Steve Hitchen with the former Tottenham Hotspur chief scout and director of technical performance close to making the move to Glasgow.

The Bhoys have enjoyed some outstanding recruitment in the Ange Postecoglou era.

Postecoglou’s knowledge of the Japanese market has helped bring Kyogo Furuhashi and Reo Hatate to Parkhead with Daizen Maeda another valuable player despite recent criticism.

Others like Cameron Carter-Vickers, Josip Juranovic, Matt O’Riley, Liel Abada, Jota and Giorgos Giakoumakis have all arrived and thrived in an exciting Bhoys team.

Celtic want Steve Hitchen

Celtic won’t want to rest on their laurels though and will always look for ways to keep improving their recruitment.

Scout Mick Doherty left the club over the summer and Celtic could now bring in a new face to aid their transfer activity moving forward.

The Sun’s Alan Nixon now reports that Steve Hitchen is now close to securing a return to football with Celtic.

It’s suggested that Hitchen attended Celtic’s Champions League clash with RB Leipzig in midweek.

The report notes that Hitchen and Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou have mutual friends and they could now work together at Celtic.

Hitchen may take an advisory role at Celtic and this would be something of a coup for the Bhoys.

Hitchen was a scout at Tottenham when they signed Luka Modric and then moved on to Liverpool, where he is credited as being the man who pushed for Luis Suarez’s arrival.

The 45-year-old returned to Tottenham in 2017 and worked as their director of technical performance, effectively replacing Paul Mitchell.

Hitchen left Tottenham earlier this year though, quitting his post with the Premier League club to pursue opportunities elsewhere.

A move to Everton was heavily rumoured but that failed to materialise, leaving Celtic in pole position to secure Hitchen’s services ahead of the January window.
