Steve Evans has never hidden his love for Celtic and the Stevenage boss has celebrated Sunday’s 2-1 win over Rangers.

The Bhoys faced their bitter Glasgow rivals on Sunday afternoon with the Viaplay Cup up for grabs at Hampden Park.

Celtic took a 2-0 lead thanks to a pair of Kyogo Furuhashi goals, both from close range.

Alfredo Morelos pulled one back for Rangers but it wasn’t enough to stop Celtic from winning another trophy.

There was delight for all connected to Celtic – manager, players, staff, fans and even other managers…

Steve Evans celebrates Celtic win

Stevenage boss Evans may not be the biggest name in Scotland but he did turn out for Clyde, Albion Rovers, Ayr United, Hamilton Academical and St Johnstone in his playing career.

The Glasgow-born boss has never managed in Scotland, instead taking charge of a number of English clubs including Rotherham United, Leeds United and Peterborough United.

Evans has never really hidden his desire to become Celtic manager though.

Way back in 2015, Evans admitted that Celtic is the ‘dream’ job for him having grown up loving the club.

Evans told BBC Sport in 2018 that he wanted to do so well at Peterborough that Dermot Desmond would bring him to Celtic.

The Scot was fancying himself to replace Brendan Rodgers one day but that hasn’t even come close to happening.

Now managing Stevenage in England’s fourth tier, Evans’ dream is unlikely to come true at this point but he still loves the Bhoys.

Evans has taken to LinkedIn to post a celebratory message after Sunday’s cup final success.

Evans paid tribute to the fans as well as all the staff at Parkhead who have enjoyed ‘another great triumph’.

“Hail Hail, Another great triumph, congratulations to everyone at Celtic Football Club,” said Evans. “Everyone plays a part, none more so than the supporters, the life blood of this great club,” he added.

Ange Postecoglou looks to be closing in on the Scottish Premiership title too, meaning there could be more success for Celtic fans – and Evans – to celebrate in the coming months.
