Celtic prospect Michael Johnston has been linked with a move to Chelsea, but a former Hoops starlet’s fall from grace should persuade him to stay put.

A recent report in the Daily Mail had suggested that Celtic prospect Michael Johnston was being monitored by Premier League leaders Chelsea along with a couple of other clubs. But while a move to Stamford Bridge may potentially tempt the 18-year-old, the fortunes of a former Hoops starlet who did make the move should persuade him to ignore the Blues’ interest.
Islam Feruz was threatening to be one of the brightest prospects pushing through at Parkhead when Chelsea came calling in 2011.
Feruz ended up making the move to Chelsea, but things have certainly not gone to plan for the 21-year-old in the six years since he decided to leave the Scottish Premiership side.
The striker is still awaiting the chance to make his first appearance for the Blues’ first-team, having spent the majority of his time out on loan.

He is also still awaiting his first career goal after making a combined 20 appearances from five loan spells, with the most recent seeing him join recently relegated League One side Swindon Town.
The Chelsea hierarchy may perhaps rate Johnston more highly than they rated Feruz six years ago, but there is no question that the path to the first-team at Stamford Bridge is incredibly congested as the latter has brutally found out.
And for that reason, those close to Johnston would surely be wise to try and convince him to commit his future to Celtic as it may give him a much better chance of becoming the kind of player that Feruz can perhaps only dream of becoming now.
