Celtic star’s snub undeserving, with Tottenham defender barely featuring.

Nominations for the prestigious Golden Boy award were announced last week, which picks the best Europe based player under the age of 21.

Previous winners include Paul Pogba, Lionel Messi and Mario Gotze, with Raheem Sterling the last Englishman to win in in 2014.

One surprise omission from the lengthy shortlist was Celtic defender Kieran Tierney, particularly when you look at other defenders on the list.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Kyle Walker-Peters was included, despite making just one Premier League start for his club.

The full-back was part of England’s under-20 World Cup winning team, but at club level he is yet to make an impact.

The 20-year-old is in no way deserving of his inclusion at Tierney’s expense.

Tierney is a Scotland international and two-time league winner with Celtic and has racked up 90 appearances already.

Last season he played a key role in Celtic going through the domestic season unbeaten, and has attracted interest from England’s top clubs.

The Mirror report Manchester United are keen on the left-back and have scouted him regularly.

Tierney’s omission is less of a reflection on him and more of a snub to Scottish football as a whole.

Even so Kyle Walker-Peters’ inclusion is baffling, with the defender likely by his own admission, still just getting started.
