Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie sees no reason why both he and Tom Rogic couldn’t play in the same starting eleven, The Herald report.

Rogic made his long-awaited return to Hoops action at the weekend against Hamilton, coming off the bench to play his first match since the Scottish Cup Final last season.

His comeback provides a big boost to Neil Lennon’s options in attacking midfield, where Christie has performed so well in the opening stages of the season.

The Scotland international doesn’t feel threatened by Rogic’s return and is delighted to see him approaching full fitness again.

Noting that he first burst into Brendan Rodgers’ first-team last season with the Australian still installed, Christie is hoping to see that again at some stage this term.

As quoted by The Herald, he said: “He’s been outstanding to watch ever since I have been at Celtic. Hopefully he is over the injuries and he can kick on.

“When I broke in to the side last season a lot of the time it was me and Tom playing together. We were both in there, which I loved.

“There’s no reason why it has to be just one of us, we can both play at the same time. That would be happy days for me.”

A Lennon tactical switch?

So far during his second spell at Celtic, Lennon has primarily used Callum McGregor and Scott Brown as his deep-lying midfielders. It’s allowed Christie to be unshackled and make a big impact in the final third.

He’s already scored eight goals this season, also assisting five. Those are the kind of numbers that make it very difficult to drop him, for Rogic or not.

However, in some matches, have two attack-minded midfielders on the pitch could be a viable option for Lennon. That’s especially true if Christie is one of them, who has the energy and work ethic to show a bit of defensive discipline when required.

That would mean McGregor or Brown dropping out, but with that pair needing more rest than they currently get in a heavy schedule, it’s a tactical switch that Lennon should explore in the coming weeks and months.

Christie has made it clear it would certainly make him happy.
