Celtic star Moussa Dembele has commented on comparisons between him and Didier Drogba by insisting that he wants to make his own name, as quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times.

Dembele has been likened to the Chelsea legend after a phenomenal start to life at Parkhead following his summer move from Fulham.

The 20-year-old has scored 12 goals in his first 17 games for the Bhoys, including an historic hat-trick against Old Firm rivals Rangers and a superb brace in the Champions League against Premier League leaders Manchester City.

That form, and the impressive nature of his performances and goals, have seen him tipped as one of European football’s biggest future stars.

He has also been compared with former Chelsea hero Drogba because of his strength and ability to score many different types of goal.

However, Dembele himself has played down the comparison by insisting that he is focused on making his own name rather than emulating any past stars.

Dembele said, via the Evening Times: “It is great to be compared to that kind of player, but I want to make my own name. Hopefully with the goals I have scored and the goals I will score, I will do that.

“Of course, I looked up to Drogba when I was younger. He was one of the greatest strikers in the world.

“He could score from anywhere, inside or outside the box. For me, he was one the best strikers there has ever been in the Premier League.”

Celtic fans, fully aware that they have unearthed a raw gem, have revelled in the comparisons and basked in the form and talent of their latest hero.

If Dembele can continue to shine in Glasgow, there is no reason why his career cannot follow a similar trajectory to the Champions League-winning Drogba.
