Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has been tipped for a World Cup call.

Celtic striker Moussa Dembele has been tipped for a surprise call up to the France international squad by Brendan Rodgers.

Dembele scored a hat-trick for France’s under-21 side and is rediscovering his form and fitness after an injury hit start to the season.

The striker is up against formidable competitions, with Kylian Mbappe, Alexandre Lacazette and Olivier Giroud all hoping to earn squad places, while Karim Benzema has also not given up hope of a recall.

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers believes he can do it, telling the Scottish Sun: “The only thing is that there is a group of really talented players in front of him in the France squad at the moment.

“But if he keeps knocking on the door, you never know. It may open.”

If Dembele is to be successful, he needs an attitude change towards Scottish football from his international boss.

England manager Gareth Southgate has made his disdain for the level of competition clear, snubbing Scott Sinclair despite the face the winger is one of the two best performing players available for selection, along with Raheem Sterling.

France boss Didier Deschamps will give Scotland a vote of confidence by selecting Dembele, and if he plays and succeeds for Les Bleus, Southgate could even reconsider Sinclair.

If he is worried no call may come, Dembele could take the step to even consider the option of leaving Celtic in January to a more high profile league, although there is no guarantee it will work.
