Celtic star Leigh Griffiths frustrated by Strachan decision, hits out on Instagram

Celtic forward wanted Gordon Strachan to stay on as Scotland boss.

The end result of Scotland’s World Cup qualifying campaign was more of the same: Failure to reach a major tournament once again.

This has led to manager Gordon Strachan’s exit, despite a promising end to the campaign, which only saw them miss out on a play-off place on goal difference, having amassed a very respectable 18 points.

BBC Sport report Strachan was ‘profoundly disappointed’ at having failed to achieve his objective.

But his departure from his role has not gone down well with everybody, least of all Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths.

According to The Scotsman, Griffiths hit out on social media, posting to his Instagram page rallying against the decision.

He posted: “Sad day, seeing the man who gave me my full scotland debut leave. Not a better man for the job in my eyes and I’m sure if he had stayed, he’d have taken us to the euros in 2020.”

Griffiths played a strong role in the second half of the campaign for Celtic, and so nearly gave them a famous victory over England, with a late equaliser denying Scotland a win.

The SFA are debating candidates to take over from Strachan, with Malky Mackay and David Moyes among the early contenders.
