Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has (jokingly) suggested to The Daily Record that Rangers cannot mark him at Ibrox.

Griffiths made the comments about Rangers while explaining his well-known celebration of tying Celtic scarfs around posts.

The Scotland international striker tied a Celtic scarf around the post at Hampden Park following the Hoops’ win against Aberdeen in the recent Scottish League Cup final.

The 28-year-old striker was prevented by Rangers stewards from doing so at Ibrox last season.

Griffiths – who has been on the books of Celtic since January 2014 when he joined from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a transfer fee reported by The Daily Mail to be worth £1 million – has commented on his celebration against Rangers and seems to have taunted the Gers.

“I got into bother at Linfield (in the Champions League qualifiers) then unfortunately for me they had two stewards on the posts (at Ibrox),” Griffiths told The Daily Record. “It’s probably the closest I’ve been marked at Ibrox.

“It was very difficult to put another one there. But listen, it’s a bit of banter at the end of the day. Guys have short memories.

“I read somewhere that Rangers did the huddle at Celtic Park in 1999. Celtic fans had to endure that so it gets us a little bit of payback.”

Meanwhile, Chris Sutton has give his take on the performances of Griffiths in The Daily Record.

The former Celtic striker has stated that he has not been convinced by the performances of the ex-Livingston striker – who has scored two goals in the Scottish Premiership and one in the Europa League for the Hoops so far this season, according to WhoScored.

Sutton wrote in The Daily Record: “He hasn’t convinced me this season. I know it’s been stop-start and there’s been all sorts of issues but the title would have been done and dusted with a fit and firing Griffiths.”
