Celtic star Kieran Tierney was caught on the knee by a late challenge from Motherwell’s Ryan Bowman.

Kieran Tierney has suggested that Ryan Bowman did apologise following the late challenge on the Celtic full-back, but insisted that the Motherwell man should have been sent off, The Scottish Sun reports.
The Hoops took another step towards the Scottish Premiership title as they won 2-0 over Mark McGhee’s men. They now sit 24 points clear and have won their last 14 games in all competitions.
The victory was somewhat marred from Tierney’s perspective as he was left with a cut on his knee following a challenge from Bowman which occurred after the ball had long gone.
And speaking after the game, the Bhoys youngster admitted that he had received an apology, but was left in no doubt that the Well forward – who was booked – should not have been on the pitch for the final 25 minutes.
“Straight away I thought something bad had happened. He caught me on the kneecap. It was a horrible challenge and my knee is all cut,” he said, as reported by The Scottish Sun.

“It was a bad tackle. He just said sorry to me after it. I didn’t say much back.
“I thought straight away it was a red card.
“If you look at my knee just now, and the fact he caught me with his studs that high, then you’d think it would be, but that’s not my decision.”

Given that Tierney spent a significant portion of the season on the sidelines due to injury, it is hardly surprising that he appears to have been left frustrated by the challenge as it could have easily seen him sustain another injury.
Although there is absolutely no reason to suggest that the challenge was at all premeditated, he also arguably has to accept that, given his talent and potential, he is going to be a player that opposition teams may consider taking a more physical approach with to try and keep quiet during the game.
