Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney is arguably the best left-back in the Scottish Premier League. He is a highly-rated young talent, and has a bright future ahead of him.

Scotland manager Gordon Strachan has showered praise on Tierney before, while his recent performances have caught the attention of Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard as well.

Strachan has two exciting young left-backs at his disposal – Tierney and Andy Robertson.

Kieran Tierney of Celtic controls the ball during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Celtic and Hibernian at Celtic Park Stadium on September 30, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Robertson’s stock has risen following his move to Liverpool this summer. Strachan therefore uses Robertson as left-back, and uses Tierney in the right-back role.

The 20-year-old is versatile and is so passionate about the game that he has gleefully adapted his new role for Scotland, though in an unfamiliar position.

In a way, it goes on to show his excellent attitude towards the game. However, Tierney admits that playing on the right, limits his natural attacking ability.

However, just like a model professional, he has supported his manager’s decision to replace him and bring Ikechi Anya against Slovakia.

Strachan may have limited Tierney’s natural instincts going forward, but he is also helping him become a complete full-back, something big clubs will notice when / if they eventually approach for him for a transfer away from Celtic Park.

“The manager brought on Ikechi Anya to be the more attacking minded wide right. Playing there limits me in an attacking sense as Andy Robertson goes up all the other side,” said Tierney, as quoted by The Daily Record (printed edition; 7th October – page 61).

“But what a change it was. The manager has called it spot on. Kech put a great ball into a dangerous area and we got the winner.”
