Giorgos Giakoumakis was a real handful for the Rangers defence on Sunday afternoon – but after Celtic’s 2-1 win at Ibrox, he believes that there is still a title race between the two sides. Celtic sit six points clear, with six to play.

Giakoumakis, 27, has been in excellent form of late after a tricky start to the campaign – now boasting 12 goals this season, including hat-tricks against Dundee and Ross County of late. The Greece international started at Ibrox.

He gave Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun a real challenge against Rangers on Sunday, and played his part as Ange Postecoglou’s side put one hand on the Scottish Premiership title. Now, he has been speaking about the title.

He believes that the title race is not over just yet despite Celtic winning. There is another Old Firm clash to be played and a Rangers win would reduce the deficit to three points – but Celtic would have to drop elsewhere.

“It [Sunday] was about passion, duels and fight. They didn’t let us play our game. We lead the race by six points. It is not over yet but it’s an advantage we have to protect to the end by winning every game,” Giakoumakis said.

Giakoumakis on title race: Could Rangers still stop Celtic?

Rangers are not in a good moment of form. Another loss on Thursday night to Braga is proof of that. Even in recent league wins, they have not been at their excellent best. That has been compounded by Alfredo Morelos’ injury.

Rangers can still beat Celtic and given that five of the remaining six games will be against the top six after the split, dropping points could be a possibility. But can Rangers win all six left to play? Doubtful.
