Celtic stretched their unbeaten domestic run to 20 games at the weekend.
During an exclusive interview with the club’s official website, Celtic centre-back Erik Sviatchenko explained how his side’s current unbeaten run is especially pleasing for him and his fellow defenders.
The Hoops have been in magnificent form domestically so far this season, and currently sit top of the Scottish Premiership table, 11 points clear of fierce rivals Rangers, with two games in hand over Mark Warburton’s men.
Brendan Rodgers’ side have strung together a run of 20 games unbeaten in all domestic competitions, and the 25-year-old Denmark international explained how the Celtic defenders in particular should cherish their recent record, as quoted by CelticFC.net:
Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko during training
“It’s a nice feeling to be on a run when we haven’t lost for 20 games now and it’s important for growing the confidence. It’s positive, especially for a defender to be unbeaten and it’s something I cherish and something a defender should cherish. We aren’t unbeatable but the feeling of it grows in our mind, and the first place it starts is the belief, which gives us the opportunity to go into the games and win them.”
Sviatchenko made his £1.5 million move to Parkhead in January of this year, and has gone on the make 43 appearances for the Glasgow giants.
Celtic’s Erik Sviatchenko looks dejected
He has started 13 of Celtic’s 16 league games so far this term, and has been a major factor behind his side conceding the fewest goals out of any club in the division thus far.
Rodgers’ men face a hectic festive period, as they look to extend their lead at the top of the table, with a run of four games over the course of a 12 day period, including the Old Firm Derby on New Year’s Eve.
