Teenage defender Myles Beerman has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since Pedro Caixinha took over as manager.

At the weekend the 17-year-old played in his first Old Firm game, and despite the defeat, acquitted himself well on the big stage at Hampden Park.

Opponent Patrick Roberts has admitted he was impressed with Beerman, saying that he tried to target him but felt the Rangers talent held his own.

The Celtic winger told Herald Scotland: “Beerman is only young and I know what it feels like to be young and playing in a big game under pressure like that.

“It’s tough and my job was to keep getting at him and force him into mistakes. I felt I did that at times, although he did pretty well against me. He showed good experience at times and he’s a good young player who can do well in the game.”

Roberts and Beerman will likely have another duel this weekend at Ibrox when the two teams face off for the final time this season.

Rangers certainly owe Celtic a response, but have been unable to beat their rivals in five previous matches this season, losing four and drawing one.

If Beerman can help hold Celtic to a clean sheet then his reputation will be even further enhance, but whatever happens at the weekend, the progress he has made has been remarkable.
