Celtic have suffered an enormous blow in their pursuit of an eighth consecutive Scottish Premiership title after Brendan Rodgers ruled Tom Rogic out of action for the next six weeks – and now they simply have to sign free agent Yaya Toure.
Rogic, 26, has suffered a knee injury and Rodgers confirmed that he would have to undergo surgery to correct the issue, stating that the Australia international will be sidelined until the middle of March – as per BBC Sport.
It will see Rogic miss both Europa League outings against Valencia, as well as a difficult trip to Rugby Park to take on Scottish Premiership title rivals Kilmarnock on February 17.
Celtic brought in a number of players in the transfer window, but the none that can fill the shoes of Rogic and it should convince Rodgers to look at the free agent market – and there is one world beater that can replace the Aussie ace.
Yaya Tour remains a free agent after leaving Olympiakos after just five games, and though he is 35 years of age, he is more than equipped to play in the Scottish Premiership.
The 35-year-old, who won the Champions League with Barcelona and the Premier League three times with Manchester City, has already joked that he could consider a move to Celtic – where brother Kolo is a coach.
“Celtic’s a great team. But let me speak with Brendan and we will see. Maybe Kolo is arranging something for me,” Toure said, during Sky Sports’ coverage of Manchester City’s 3-0 win over Wolves on January 14.
Greek outlet Gazzetta.gr claim Celtic were interested in making a move for the 97-time Ivory Coast international, who is renowned for his powerful runs from deep, long-range shooting and intricate array of passing.
With Rogic injured, surely Celtic have to consider a short-term deal to bring Toure to Parkhead in their bid to stave off the title challenge of both Rangers and Kilmarnock.
