It was going to inevitable that once Brendan Rodgers left Celtic for Leicester City, those he coached at Parkhead were going to be touted to join him at the King Power Stadium, at some point.

Well, one name that has been rumoured to make a reunion with Rodgers in the Premier League is that of highly-rated defender Kristoffer Ajer, as reported by the Daily Star.

It is said that the Foxes are plotting a £15 million raid for the 21-year-old, who is being viewed as a potential replacement for Harry Maguire, who has since joined Manchester United.

Over the summer, Celtic lost a number of key players, especially from a defensive standpoint – Filip Benkovic returned to Leicester following his loan spell and Dedryck Boyata left following the expiry of his contract.

It could be argued that Ajer is the best of the lot on his day, and given his age, 21, he can take his game to much higher levels in these coming seasons.

There has been talk about Kieran Tierney’s future at Parkhead, and whilst Celtic wouldn’t want to lose him, losing Ajer, at this stage would be utterly disastrous.

Throughout the summer, the Scottish Premiership champions have been preparing for the outcome of losing Tierney, but they haven’t been preparing for losing Ajer.

Therefore, it would seem a bigger blow, and with Neil Lennon trying to chase that historic nine-in-a-row, those hopes would take a slight dent.

Simply put, Celtic need to do everything to ensure Ajer doesn’t leave Parkhead before Thursday’s deadline.
