Henderson, the younger brother of former Hoops man Liam, was due to leave Parkhead this summer, but signing him up is an excellent decision.
He impressed Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers in only his second-ever senior appearance last week, before earning a spot on the bench for Saturday’s win over Hamilton in Glasgow.
This is a very talented young player with a big future and it wouldn’t have reflected well on the Scottish champions had they lost him for free in a few months.
They already look set to lose Dedryck Boyata on a Bosman this summer, and somebody at Parkhead made a big mistake in allowing it to come to this with the big Belgian defender.
But it’s refreshing to see the Bhoys learn from their mistakes and secure Henderson’s future.
Rodgers said this past weekend that he was ‘so impressed’ with the teenager, who he described as a ‘huge talent’ [Herald Scotland]
There’s a long way to go before he is showcasing that talent in Celtic’s senior side on a weekly basis, but this is a very positive step toward that.
