Celtic are one of the sides keen on signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Reo Griffiths this summer.
In his two seasons as Celtic boss, Brendan Rodgers has managed to surprise many with some of the deals that he has managed to pull off, including the signing of Moussa Dembele during his first summer at Parkhead and the second loan deal for Patrick Roberts 12 months ago.
And it appears that the Hoops manager is eyeing up another deal that would shock many within the football world, with the Daily Mirror reporting on their live transfer blog (26/05; 19:29) that the Bhoys are among the sides monitoring Tottenham starlet Reo Griffiths as he nears the end of his contract with Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
Griffiths has been in incredible form for Spurs’ youth sides this past season, scoring 34 goals in all competitions. His form regularly prompted supporters to ask for the 17-year-old to be given a chance in the first-team as Harry Kane’s understudy with Fernando Llorente struggling to make an impact.
Given the race that Celtic find themselves in therefore, it is surely fair to say that Rodgers bringing the teenager to the Scottish Premiership would arguably be, by far, the greatest statement that he has made during his time with the Hoops.
Including Spurs, Celtic are battling four sides who reached the knockout stages of the Champions League this past season, while Juve and Barca both claimed their respective league titles once again. Griffiths would be forgiven for finding every move on offer tempting.
Celtic, on paper, is probably the least attractive option, but Rodgers should be able to offer the clearest path to the first-team, and that may perhaps just give the Hoops a realistic chance of pulling off the deal that looks to have the potential to be a masterstroke wherever he ends up.
