Celtic boss Neil Lennon is said to want Romaine Sawyers, who could be compared to Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers’s new boy Joe Aribo.

If Celtic do sign Romaine Sawyers from Brentford, as the Scottish Sun suggest they are trying, then it could send a message to Glasgow Rangers.
Rangers have had a more productive summer than Celtic so far, and there are hopes at Ibrox that Steven Gerrard’s side will be able to close the gap on the Bhoys next term.
Celtic have dominated Scottish football in recent times, but Rangers do appear to be making strides to improve under Gerrard.
The Ibrox side have already been very active this summer, and one of their more appealing signings is Joe Aribo.
Aribo has looked a really bright prospect during his time with Charlton Athletic in League One, and there are hopes that he can step straight into Gerrard’s team.
If Celtic do go and sign Sawyers, he will immediately have a counterpart to be compared to though.

Sawyers and Aribo are very similar players. They both like to get on the ball as much as possible, they are capable of threading a pass through to a teammate and can beat a man.
However, Celtic signing Sawyers would trump Rangers’ deal for Aribo.
Sawyers is far more proven than Aribo, and has proved a threat at Championship level during his time in England.
The Brentford playmaker is established as one of the most dynamic midfielders in England’s second tier.
And although Aribo is an exciting addition for Rangers, Celtic would be making an even better one by bringing in Sawyers – which would prove that Gerrard’s men still have work to do, if they are to close the gap entirely.
