Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side have dispatched their domestic opposition with ease this season, reaching late February still unbeaten.

They will be sure not to rest on their laurels so they can improve further next season, and while flush with cash, should not overlook a bargain free transfer.

A player who could be a very smart addition for them is Yoan Gouffran, currently starring for Newcastle United in the Championship, but scheduled at present to be a free agent.

Gouffran features among HITC’s breakdown of the top 50 players set to become free agents this summer.

Gouffran had been out of the picture and out of form under previous manager Steve McClaren, but has looked like a different player under Rafa Benitez.

He plays mainly as a left winger, and would be a valuable addition to Celtic’s squad if they could lure him to play alongside compatriot Moussa Dembele.

The 30-year-old has bagged seven goals from the wing this season, also chipping in with three assists.

He is strong in the air, winning the second highest aerial duels per game this season (2.1) of any Newcastle midfielder, enabling him to contribute offensively and defensively.

Gouffran has shown the ability to thrive in a pressured environment at St James’ Park this season and would not be daunted by the demands at Celtic.

This season he has shown a greater determination to succeed than before, and if Newcastle do not offer him a new deal, Celtic would be wise to try and add him to their array of attacking options.
