Celtic attacking midfielder Tom Rogic is reportedly attracting plenty of attention this summer.
When Tom Rogic is on top form, there is perhaps no better and more dangerous player in the Scottish Premiership – and yet, Celtic should be willing to accept £9 million for the Australian this summer.
The Scottish Sun has reported this week that Zenit St Petersburg are preparing a bid for the 26-year-old, but the Hoops plan to hold out for £15 million for the attacking midfielder, who joined Celtic back in 2013.
Of course, if the Bhoys sense that any admirer is willing to go towards their eight-figure asking price, then it makes a lot of sense to hold out for that figure. But £9 million appears to be a very good price for Rogic.
He is a fantastic talent, and would need replacing if he did leave Parkhead this summer. But Rogic has struggled with injury throughout his time in Scotland, and he has not made more than 23 league starts in any of the last three campaigns.
Rogic made 21 league appearances last term, and was substituted off 10 times. The large majority of supporters noticed how much he seemed to struggle to make an impact once a game had gone past the hour-mark, so £9 million would arguably be an offer that should be too good to turn down.
Keeping Rogic would probably not prove to be an error. It would be hardly surprising if he still manages to produce the moments of magic that the supporters tend to expect from the Wizard of Oz. But given his limitations, Neil Lennon’s men have to consider whether an additional £9 million in their transfer kitty may be more beneficial.
