Celtic should rival Glasgow Rangers in the race for Jack Marriott

Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers are said to be want Jack Marriott, but Brendan Rodgers should look to bring him to Celtic.

Celtic cannot just watch on and allow Glasgow Rangers to complete the signing of Jack Marriott, without offering them some competition.

According to Sky Sports, Rangers are interested in bringing Marriott to Ibrox as Steven Gerrard’s first signing.

And Rangers’ interest in the 23-year-old should put Celtic on red alert.

Marriott will cost a sizeable fee, and his arrival would confirm that Rangers do have the funds to invest to start challenging Brendan Rodgers’ side.

It would also give Rangers a striker who could have the ability to rip apart defences in Scotland.

Marriott has hit 33 goals this season for Peterborough United, and his been touted as the best striker outside the Premier League by his current boss Steve Evans.

Of course, Rangers need more than just one addition to start competing with Celtic – but Marriott’s arrival would be one which should spark some concern at Parkhead.

And Celtic should simply try and ensure that Marriott does not move to Rangers.

Marriott could also be a wonderful addition for Rodgers’ side, and would bolster their attacking options.

Celtic may lose Moussa Dembele this term, but Marriott’s goalscoring exploits at League One level show that he could be a great replacement for the Frenchman.

At the moment at move to Celtic is likely to appeal more than a switch to Rangers, and the Bhoys should look to bring Marriott in, to ensure that Gerrard does not take the first step to closing the gap between the two sides.
